Squeals of Delight

It was about a year ago that I purchased this fabric.

I just loved the colours and the texture of the fabric.  I had been looking for a pattern - something that would show off this fabric.  I just knew that I didn't want to cut it up in little pieces.  It just wouldn't do the lovely designs justice if I did that.

Last summer I found a pattern in the Fons and Porter magazine.  It was one that Julie Herman of Jaybird Quilts designed.  It has been on my list of quilts to do and this fabric is the perfect choice.

This weekend I was able to get a fair amount of quilting done and am 'squealing with delight' as to how much I accomplished and how my quilt is starting to turn out.  I would recommend this block to anyone.  It's fun, quick and has lots of impact.

Still a few more blocks to make.  Supper is finished, laundry is done and my Calligraphy for convocation is finished so I'm heading downstairs for more sewing machine time.

Hope everyone had a great long weekend.

Enjoy your week!

Happy Quilt and More Pillow Cases

I think I may have gone pillow case crazy.  I have been having too much fun creating!  I guess I like the instant gratification that I get from quilting a project in a short amount of time.  It is a nice break from the norm.

These two pillowcases have a crisp feel to me.  Like when your sheets are freshly washed and have been hanging outside to dry and they come in and have that nice smell to them.  That's what I'm reminded of when I look at these cases.

These were made for someone special and I hope she likes them as much as I do.

Quite a while ago I put this top together.  At the time that I was working on it I was going through a fairly rough patch in my life.  So, this one was an escape for me.

I have dubbed this quilt, "The Happy Quilt" and deliberately chose bright, cheery colours.

These pictures are not that great and I realized that the top is all wrinkled, however, today I am too lazy to pull it all out and retake the pictures.

So . . . back to the pillow cases.
I had just enough material from the two borders that I could create two pillow cases to match.

I think I have more or less done all of the pillow cases that I am going to do for now.

Time to move on to other projects.

Enjoy your long weekend!

A Tribute to My Mom

My mom is the best mom ever and the older I get the more I appreciate her.

She has supported and encouraged me through everything I have experienced in life.

She was there every day of my growing up years.

She taught me of the ways of God by living an example and taking me to church.

She made sure that my all my needs were met and many of my wants (including a dog).

She was there when I heard the news that I didn't get into Nursing School.

She was there when I got married.

She couldn't be there when Elyse was born but reached over the miles from Africa.

She came and stayed with me when Graham came into this world.

My mom has always had a great relationship with my kids and that makes my heart sing.

I know that my mom prays for me daily.

You see why my mom is the best mom ever!

I wouldn't be the person that I am today if it wasn't for my mom.

Mom, these flowers are for you.

Love you lots Mom, have a great Mother's Day!

Pillow Case

Blogging twice in a weekend, the stars must be aligned right.

After spending most of the day getting the house ready to sell, I decided I needed to get down to my sewing room to do something.  I wanted some instant gratification so thought I would whip up a pillow case for the spare bed . . . and voila

. . . a pillowcase in under an hour.

I was pleased with the way it turned out for a first try.

I followed this tutorial:   Missouri Star Quilt Co. Pillow Case

Fast and easy and fun!

Have a terrific day!

A Walk in the Woods

My daughter left her old camera when she went off to England so I seized the opportunity to try a 'real' camera.  My cameras have been of the 'point and shoot' variety which works for me for the most part, but I was itching to try something more intense, so to speak.  Both my husband and my kids all are good photographers so I'm in the minority here.

Here is what I took on my walk in the woods one sunny Saturday.  Most of the pictures were taken within a block of my house.

We live in a very beautiful part of the country.

 Isn't the sky beautiful

Once the leaves start to come out it will be fun to take another walk in the woods.

Have a fantastic day!
