Elephant Walk

Here is a quilt that I just finished for a very special friend of mine!

Please indulge me - I took lots of pictures.

Here we are - all cut out and ready to sew together.

Sewn together with the two borders on.

Quilted and bound.

I decided to sew the binding on by machine.  This is the third project that I have done this way and again, I love the way it turned out.

Picture of the back.

First one before washing.

After washing.  I love how it gets that warm, cuddly feel to it after it's been washed.
Good enough to wrap a baby up in hugs!

All rolled up and ready to roll on to my dear friends house!

Thanks for taking the time to look at this quilt made with love.

Spring

I think we are all waiting for Spring.  I saw these flowers at the store the other day and just had to have them to brighten up my life.

I love the colour!

Don't you just love this fabric?

And how about these together?

So fun!!

Have a great day!

Good Byes and A Trip Around the World

It's fitting that I should be displaying my 'Trip Around the World' quilt and saying 'Good Bye' to my daughter as she moves to England for a year or two.

I have had this quilt finished for a long time now and finally put it up yesterday!  So excited to finally display it.

This was the second quilt that I completed and the first one that I quilted myself.  The story is that I wanted to do a quilt for myself but nothing that was 'country' in feel.  I think I achieved the look I was after.  I have nothing against 'country', it just doesn't fit into the look that I'm trying to achieve.

My daughter decided to make a change in her life by moving to the other side of the world.  We are close and I miss her terribly . . . thank goodness for Skype!  It's not like it was 27 years ago when my parents moved to Africa for 4 years.  We didn't have internet back then and we used to write down what we wanted to say when we phoned.  It was a minimum of $65 dollars to call.

Doesn't Elyse look happy!   . . . and for that matter I don't look like I've been crying.  It's natural that your kids grow up and assume their own lives.  I'm really grateful that my kids keep in touch and phone just to chat or ask my advise.  I have the best kids in the world!

Both of my kids have a good relationship with their grandparents.  My mom and dad are the 'hipest' grandparents.  They have invested in my kids lives and it pays dividends.

So it is fitting that I display my 'Trip Around the World' and say 'Good Bye' at the same time!  Just think of the places I get to visit!

I'm Star Struck!

 Oh how I love stars!

Finally finished and on the table.

This was a very fun project that you will find in this book called 'Tis the Season by Jeanne Large and Shelley Wicks.  I bought this book from Amazon.  This is just one of the many projects that I will find myself doing!

On another note, my daughter is preparing to head off to London England for an undetermined amount of time on a one way ticket.  I'm very excited for her but sad for this me as I will miss her so very much.

I had framed a couple pictures that she took and have them up in the bedroom.  That way when I see them first thing in the morning and last thing at night I can say a prayer for her while we are apart.

My son made for me the cutest origami box a while back and I have that in a prominent place to remind me of him and have said a prayer or two for him when I see this little box.

No children around but great places to visit . . . London, England and Victoria, BC.

Can't get any better than that!

Here is a picture of the pictures I framed . . .

Enjoy your evening!

Quilt for a Friend

I seem to be a place in my life when my friend's children are having babies so what does a quilter do?  They put a quilt together.

I was very happy with the way this one turned out.

The pinning process - thank goodness for space on the kitchen floor . . .

It's girly, pink and cheery.

I did the quilting myself and am pleased with it.

I decided that I would sew on the binding by machine instead of hand sewing it.  I was amazed and very happy with the way it came together.

I hope the recipient enjoys this as much as I did putting it together.

Since today was valentine's day, I thought I would show you the note and flowers that my daughter delivered to me at work today.  She's very sweet and I will miss her greatly when she moves away to London, England in March.

. . . and hubby and I went to dinner and a movie.

Where Has the Time Gone?

Here we are already in February and I haven't posted since the middle of January.
 Time is flying by . . .

I have been extremely busy at work, staying late and exhausted when I get home at the end of the day.  Have been on the computer but it's been just to play a game and check in with facebook.
Does anyone else out there listen to Jango?  I quite like the mix of music that they offer especially the gospel  mix.  It really lifts you up both at the beginning of the day and at the end.  It does focus you on what really is important.

Here are a couple of pictures from the retreat I went to.  Wouldn't you know it, it was the coldest week of the whole winter season.  -25 plus!!!  Glad it has warmed up.

I started my trip by going to my good friend Wendy's place the night before.  Wendy has been one person that has been there for me through all of my ups and downs.  There is no judgement there and she is such an encourager to me - plus we have quilting in common.

What more could a girl ask for?

Here's Lynn and Wendy working away.

. . . and Wendy again with Jean-Ann in the back ground.

 . . . the sweat shop
Notice how nice and sunny it is outside . . . but oh so cold!

Same pattern . . . different looks.  Both are gorgeous!

I haven't taken any pictures of my project yet.  I have most of the blocks put together and a couple that I have sewed together backwards - so there is some ripping out in my future.  Hopefully next week I'll have something to show.
