Feminine, Sweet and Lovable . . .

. . . just like the person this quilt is for.

I finally finished the top!

Not sure why I stalled on this one.  All I had to finish was the final border.

Tried to take pictures outside but it started to rain.

I'm still debating on whether I should just get this one quilted or if I should tackle this one myself.

A close up of the block.

Now to get this finished up and ready for a trip across the ocean to London.

Elyse, hoping that you are liking it so far.

26 and Counting

 26 and only a zillion more to go . . .

I love the variety!

I'm awaiting the arrival of my son from Victoria later today.  I'm so excited that he is able to come for a few days.  Life is good when you can spend time with your kids.

I'm still on a kick about clouds - they continue to be so beautiful.

Isn't it wonderful this world that God has created for us to enjoy?!

My daughter's blog also mentions the beauty of the clouds.
Check it out if you have a moment.

Canadian Tire had their Dahlia's on sale last week so I picked one up for the deck.

Aren't they beautiful and such a lovely shade of pink!

Blessings on your day,

Summer Time

I can't believe that it has been so long since I have blogged.  The days seem to be going so fast.

Lots of upcoming changes in my life.  Some good and some not so good but that's what life is made up of.  We sold our house in two weeks, much faster than anticipated.  So now to pack, move and get settled into a new life and place.

If any of you know me at all, you know that I am a huge Winnie the Pooh fan - there seems to be a fair amount of wisdom in that old bear.

"What day is it ?"  asked Pooh
"It's today," squeaked Piglet
"My favorite day," said Pooh

I am learning that there are no guarantees with life so to take everyday as it comes is the best.  If you look hard enough you will find the good in every day so then it can become your 'favorite day'.

The clouds in our area have been so spectacular lately so I had to snap few pictures.

What a display.

I am still working on my quilt called Three in a Box.  Only have 7 more blocks to do.  Not sure why I always feel the need that bigger is better, however, that's where I am right now.  By the time this is all put together it should be queen size.  I'm loving it!

I find that summer time is the best time to work on my hexies and I was able to make some progress the other day.

Hope you all are enjoying your summer so far.

Lovin Summer

Ya gotta love summer!

Yummy salads . . .

Painted toes . . .

Beautiful skies . . .

Raspberries that grow year after year . . .

Beautiful flowers . . .

And a beautiful lush backyard that houses birds and squirrels . . .

I don't think we would love summer as much unless we did go through the winter . . . same as life.  We have to weather the storms in order to appreciate the good seasons that come our way.

Hope you are enjoying your summer or the start of it!

A Tribute to My Dad

I have always said and will say again and again that -

I have the best dad in the universe.

And this is why he is the best -

My dad was always there for me.

If I was out as a teenager and needed a ride home, I knew that I could always count on my dad to come and get me.

My dad would always stand up for me.

When I was in grade 10 and unable to get into a math class, my dad marched down to the school and made sure that they had a spot for me which is a funny story in itself, eh dad?!

My dad could always bring a smile to my face.

If you know my dad, you will know that he likes to laugh and be silly.  I really don't think he has a serious side to him.  He is a very lighthearted, positive and happy person.

My dad took care of my needs and wants.

My dad was always a hard worker and we never lacked for anything growing up - at least we didn't think we did.  We weren't rich by any means but always had enough.  As a teenager, he also knew how important it was to have money in my pocket and gas in my (his) car.  He was always very generous with his time and resources.   A couple of times I've even received flowers from my dad at work.  How great is that?

My dad loves my kids and they think grandpa is the greatest.

I think this is because my dad thinks he is a 'kid' himself.  They used to love it when grandpa was silly and even to this day as grown ups they think highly of grandpa.

I love you dad - you really are the best!

Happy Father's Day

Finds

Here are a couple of the finds that I purchased at Heritage Park.  I had been looking for some Christmas material and finally found the kind of 'Christmas' that I was looking for.

I like the reds and greens in this bundle and it should be lots to work with.  Now to look for a pattern.

I am a sucker also for soft, delicate looking fabrics and these ones fit the bill.  I believe they from the line called Beachwalk.  I am looking forward to creating something sweet with this fabric.

And finally I picked up four different table runners for a really great price.  One is already put together that you can see in my last post.  They make good gifts put together or just as they are for a quilter friend.  Fortunately, I even paid less than what was posted on the packages.

I guess I won't be buying too much more fabric in the next little while as I am saving my shekles for a trip later this year.  Oooh, I am so excited and am looking forward to the break and visiting with my daughter.  Hope it all comes together for a reasonable price.  Now I really do have to finish that quilt for her that I started a while ago.  The next quilt I start will need to be for my son and I have an idea in mind for him and some fabric already.  It would be nice to make a trip to see him this summer.

Enjoy your evening all!

Heritage Park Finish

Last weekend, my friend Reta and I found ourselves at Heritage Park for the annual Quilt Fest for the Calgary region.  Reta doesn't quilt but she sure enjoys looking at the quilts as much as I do.  What fun to see all of the new fabric, goodies not to mention the finished quilts that are display.  They even display some of them in the turn of the century houses which is really neat.

Can you believe that I forgot to take my camera along?!  Not sure what I was thinking when I left the house in the morning.  Oh well, there's always next year.  My niece, Alyssa (the one who put a quilt together with me one weekend) went and took lots of great pictures!

I think that a highlight for me is to look at the quilts that hang from the Wainwright building . . . it's great to look at those ones from a distance and choose one that we think has the greatest impact.  Some years Reta and I choose the same one and other years not.

Here's a picture of the quilts hanging from the Wainwright building from a couple of years ago.

I bought way too much as usual but I always justify that it's close to my birthday and I'm buying something for myself.

The only drawback to the day was that the wind was very chilly.  Didn't stop us from spending the whole day there though.

I bought myself a table runner kit from Country Creations in Strathmore.  Lorraine runs the quilting retreat that I go to each year in January and has a great selection of fabrics, kits and notions in her store.  If you ever have a chance to get to her store, you will not be disappointed.

Here are a couple of pictures of the finished table runner.

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend!
