Amidst the Mosquito Coils

Camping .... Or shall I say Glamping.

That's what I have had the privilege to do for the past few days and will get to do for a few more.  You see my mom and dad own a trailer out in Radium, B.C. so it's just a hop, skip and jump over to this beautiful place from where we live.

As you all know it's crazy sitting outside this time of the year with the mosquitoes. My dad is constantly keeping the coils going so my mom and I can read, check our FB account, emails, do our puzzles and our hand crafts.

Here's my mom working on one of her dishcloths. They are sure nice to have. 

I'm working on my life time supply of hexes. Not really and actually I have more an 150 flowers completed. Getting here. I find that I enjoy doing these more in the summer than in the winter time. 

What a delight this place is!! It's so nice to sit out until 10 pm and not worry about having to find a sweater or coat to put on. The weather has been perfect!!

It's taken me a while to get this post ready for publishing because I was doing it on my iPad. Usually I do it on my home computer and I feel proud of myself that I have figured it out on this devise.

On Holidays . . .

What does one do when it's HOT out and you are on holidays 

without a sewing machine.

Why you read a good book . . .

You have a glass of wonderfully cold water . . .

You catch up on your emails and FB with your IPhone . . .

And you work on your hand quilting . . .

Hexagons!!

I spent the last week and a bit with my mom and dad.

What a wonderful holiday it was.

Time in Radium and a little trip to Spokane 

where I got to catch up with my cousin 

whom I hadn't seen for many years!

The weather was hot and the outdoor life was wonderful in Radium.

On our trip up to Radium we stropped and took pictures of this beautiful rainbow.

Breathtaking!!

A few moments later, the sun came out and was out for the rest of our holiday.

Aren't the Rocky Mountains spectacular?

We forget sometimes that we live in a very beautiful place on this planet.

 

Once in Radium mom, dad and I sit back 

and enjoy the view from the trailer.

A hike up to Sinclair Falls was a must this trip with a friend.

Middle of last week we took a little excursion to Spokane, WA.

Our trip took us through Sandpoint, ID where we stopped for lunch.

What another beautiful spot! (Oh and the food was great too!)

Once in Spokane we had a lovely visit with my cousin and her daughter.

So nice to reconnect.

On our way back to the city, we made one more stop at Numa Falls.

Again, another beautiful spot.

Thanks mom and dad for a wonderful trip.

So nice to spend time with you!

Elephants Abound

What a busy week sewing I've had.

Last week Michelle posted this baby quilt along with the instructions.

Thank you!

I just had to try it and am happy that I did.

A friend of mine asked me if I could make her a baby quilt for her niece.

The couple doesn't know what they are having so neutral I needed to go.

 I think this fits the bill nicely.

I'm hoping that the aqua border works. 

I am second guessing myself.

I also can't seem to come up with a name for this quilt.

I've used the elephants before in a different baby quilt that I made called Elephant Walk.

Yesterday morning we had the most wonderful looking moon going down.

Somehow, the pictures never look as fantastic as it does in person.

It was still fairly dark so this as good as it gets.

 

On the long weekend in September I took a trip out to Radium to visit my mom and dad.

They have a trailer out there and it is a beautiful place to retreat to.

The weekend was lovely - good company, food and weather!!

You can see I was working hard,

or hardly working!!

I have decided that I like Fall.

I think Fall grounds us. 

It makes us look forward to the year ahead and sets our focus.

It's a time to prepare for Winter and think about what we want to accomplish.

I even find myself wandering through the bookstore and eyeing 

the neat pens, folders, and sticky notes.

Always was a sucker for those kinds of things.

Holidays

Wow - three weeks of holidays goes fast!  So nice to have the time away from work and all of the duties that call us every other day of the year!  Since my hubby was gone during the first week, I was fortunate to spend some time having coffee, lunch, visits, and day trips with some of my good friends and sisters.  I managed to see quite a few people.  As well as visiting I took the time to just sit on the deck, listen to the birds, read and have my morning cup of coffee.  The simple things in life.

Could life get any better??

I also managed to squeeze in the quilt show in Strathmore as you can see in my previous posting.

Good friends of ours invited us to join them in Radium for an extended long weekend.  We took our time driving up there and stopped at all of the neat places along the highway.

Refreshing and rejuvenating.  Weather wasn't the greatest but we did manage to get a few rays of sun in.  Had lots of laughs, good food and fellowship, but I found out that I suck at Mexican Train!  Thought the deal was to collect points??!!  Not!

Brian and Jan brought Boomer with them.  Isn't he cute?

 On my last week of holidays, hubby and I went to Airdrie for the day to the Antique Mall there.  Took us forever to go through all of the displays.  At one point we came around the corner and Peter spotted a Bessie Guttman picture - my favorite artist.  He bought it for me and now it is hanging on my wall in our spare room.  I had never seen this particular print before and am tickled pink with it!

With working full time, I never have time to bake so one last thing that I did on my holiday was to whip together some cookies.

So all in all, a very busy and productive three weeks off.  No quilting during these three weeks but just enjoyed 'being'.  Nothing wrong with that.  Somehow I think that the sun rejuvenates our outward self but ultimately the 'Son' rejuvenates our soul.
